A FEAST FOR THE

VEXILLOPHILES

BREATHING LIFE INTO ALTERA WITH FLYING COLOURS

This is a silent roar
An everlasting handkerchief of nostalgia waving toward that vast blue sea
Pure love flutters in the wind like a wave
On only a clear, straight post of ideology
Sorrow spreads its wings like a heron...

FLAGS AT MAST

CELEBRATING COMMUNITY FLAG CONTRIBUTIONS

Some pore over maps and flip through encyclopedia entries to learn about our world. For many others, a flag is the first window into a different world. Flags can be symbols of chauvinism—flag waving—but fluttering flags also invite curiosity. They beckon us to learn geography in an accessible and bite-size way. In fact, a flag may be the most common mode for the average person to engage with a distant land and people.

Many of Atlas Altera's casual supporters and fellow travellers alike have chosen to engage with the project through vexilography—creating flags. Here are the submitted flags that have been raised to lore status. More to come!
